Domenech: “Mbappé flop for the mask? It has nothing to do with it. I don’t think he’ll improve against Spain”

Former French national team coach Raymond Domenech gave an interview to the German portal Ran a few hours before the kick-off of the first of the two semi-finals of this European Championship, which the team currently coached by Didier Deschamps finds itself having to face against Spain.
The debate on the performance of some stars is taking place in the country, above all that of Kylian Mbappe, decidedly below their standards. Here is Domenech’s opinion on the matter.

Mbappé hasn’t shone yet. Is it just the mask he’s had to wear since he broke his nose in the first match of the Euros?

“No. Even before he had to wear the mask, he wasn’t in top form. He hasn’t played very well in the last three months. He struggled in Paris, then it became official that he was moving to Real Madrid. Even the mask doesn’t make it any easier. This is not the Mbappé we know.”

Will Mbappé find his best form against Spain?
“I’m not sure. As I said: We have many good offensive alternatives. National team coach Deschamps has the opportunity to change. He already showed that with Griezmann, whom he replaced after just over an hour in the quarter-final against Portugal. If Deschamps feels that Mbappé is having problems, then he will change something.”
