The news had been in the air since yesterday. Thiago Alcantara retires from football. The former midfielder, a product of the Barcelona youth sector and most recently at Liverpool, after seven seasons at Bayern Munich, has decided to call it quits. The Spaniard posted on his page X this message: “I will always be ready to give back what has been given to me and I am grateful for the time I have dedicated to doing so – began the player -. Thank you, football. And to all those who have accompanied me and made me a better player and person throughout my journey. See you soon, Thiago”.
The player has achieved many career triumphs: his list of honours includes four Liga titles and seven Bundesliga titles, while on the international stage he has lifted a Champions League and two Club World Cups.
I will always be willing to give back what I have been given and I am grateful for the time I have enjoyed it.
