Interviewed by Telegraphthe former midfielder Ibrahim Afellay he praised Denzel Dumprieshighlighting his key role in the Dutch national team during the European Championship:
“Dumfries is the star of this national team,” he said. “We are not the team with the best individual players compared to other nations, but you don’t have to have the best to be the best. I couldn’t blame Dumfries for that mistake in the corner. He looked like he was having a bit of a disconnect at the time. But looking at how he reacted, Dumfries really is the star of the Dutch team,” Afellay said.
Oranje coach Ronald Koeman also had important words for the Inter player: “I thought: what is Dumfries doing? I wondered why he didn’t hold the ball. But if we had more with a big heart like Denzel, we would be even better. With a bit of luck in the end we managed to get the victory”, concluded the coach.
