Brazil, Andreas Pereira vents: “It hurts many to see our five stars on their chest”

Subject of a controversy with the players of theUruguay, Andreas Pereira posted a rant on social media after the elimination of Selection from the America’s Cup right by the hand of the Heavenly of ‘Loco Bielsa’. In the shared text, the midfielder of Fulham and Brazil reiterated that he saw no problem with his pre-match statements – in which he reiterated the quality of the Brazilian team and said that the Seleção has players that “Uruguay would dream of having” – which instead were interpreted as a provocation by the opponents.

The first words. “To celebrate our history, to believe and be proud of the 5 (5 stars on the chest, ed.) and of our players does not mean to denigrate anyone’s image. We cannot accept this narrative,” thundered the 28-year-old player. Continuing: “Patriotism and love are things that come from the blood. It is not negotiable. I fought hard (to wear the Brazil jersey, ed.) … I changed things and God prepared me until today I could be in the greatest Selection in the world, playing beautiful games and feeling at home. Because the Seleção is the home of all of us Brazilians.”

The lunge. “We are Brazil… I know, it hurts many people to see the 5 stars on our chest. How uncomfortable it is when we take a stand, speak, raise our voices and show our joy and pride in being Brazilians. What we need to know is that we are more than 200 million, that together no one can stop us. And if we bother you… together we speak much louder. We work and improve what needs to be improved, we evolve… Like no other… I know that Brazilians have the power to shake off the dust and change things, because every day is a war won for many people,” Pereira said. Closing with a hymn to the love for his homeland: “Brazil, I love you and I will always love you.”
