Spain-Germany 2-1 aet, the ratings: Merino and Dani Olmo stand out, Havertz wasteful

Final result: Spain-Germany 2-1 (aet)

SPAIN
Unai Simon 6.5 – A couple of saves in the first half, which in truth do not require much effort from him. The second half features a good save on Andrich, but also an error that fortunately Havertz does not exploit. The excellent response to Fullkrug’s header in extra time makes his performance overall very positive.

Carvajal 7 – Literally monumental, especially in the second half. He keeps his team afloat with a couple of great defender-like blocks, even showing a second yellow to stop Musiala just before the 120th minute.

The Norman 5.5 – He alternates excellent closures with decidedly questionable situations, such as when he loses Havertz who almost scores. From 46′ Nacho 6 – With his entrance on the field, he gives greater solidity to De la Fuente’s defense.

Door 6 – Careful match in the center of the area, against a German attack not in its best day. More suffering after the interval.

Cucurella 5.5 – As usual, of the two Spanish full-backs he is the one who pushes a bit more. Not a great game for him anyway, who in the action of 1-1 loses the aerial duel with Kimmich. In great difficulty since Wirtz enters.

Pedri sv. – The Barcelona talent is very unlucky as, due to a couple of excessively hard interventions, he leaves after less than a quarter of an hour. From 8′ Dani Olmo 7.5 – There couldn’t have been a better move by De la Fuente. He unlocked the game at the start of the second half, then served Merino the ball that was worth the semi-final.

Rodri 6.5 – The usual metronome of the midfield, who makes himself noticed with some of his openings but also with a lot of substance.

Fabian Ruiz 6.5 – Just like Rodri, rather than giving quality he thinks about contrasting Germany in the nerve center of the field. He increases his quality level especially in the first part of the second half. From 102′ Joselu 6 – Very few opportunities to show off during the two periods of extra time.

Yamal 6.5 – Barça’s rising star puts in effort and offensive resourcefulness, but doesn’t shine as he has on other occasions. He improves at the start of the second half, with the assist for Dani Olmo’s 1-0. From 63′ Ferran Torres 6 – He tries to bring freshness to the attack, but doesn’t have many balls at his disposal.

Morata 5.5 – He works a couple of balls with his back to the goal, in a complicated afternoon in which he is served little. Things do not change much in the second half. From 79′ Merino 7.5 – The man of destiny. He brings new energy to the midfield, but he also shows up up front and on one of these occasions he heads the ball past Neuer to seal the final 2-1.

Nico Williams 5.5 – The offensive winger of Atheltic Bilbao does not maintain the standards shown so far at the European Championship. A couple of flashes and little else. From 79′ Oyarzabal 6 – He lights up in extra time, almost scoring the winning goal. Good glimpse of the game from him.

Louis De la Fuente 7 – His Spain knows how to play, but also knows how to suffer and interpret every moment of the game well. A demonstration of great maturity, from a team that can win the title.

GERMANY
New 6 – A couple of saves during the first half. For the rest few interventions and basically no responsibility for the two goals conceded.

Kimmich 6.5 – His performance improved as the match progressed. He was among the most incisive especially in the second half, with continuous crosses and especially with the assist for the 1-1 by Wirtz.

Rudiger 5.5 – Despite having to live with the warning from the first minutes, he plays without ever holding back in terms of closures. Just a hair’s breadth from penalties, however, Merino is lost at 2-1.

Tah 6 – Together with Rudiger he forms a tough pair, against the darting Spanish attack. From the 80th minute Muller 6 – Good entrance onto the pitch for the experienced Bayern attacking midfielder, who always serves his teammates with intelligence and precision.

Room 5.5 – Good continuity of thrust on the left, with also a couple of inviting crosses for the strikers. Worse after the interval, when he loses the duel with Yamal on Dani Olmo’s goal. From 57′ Middle City 6 – Overall, the match was sufficient for him, both in terms of thrust and defence.

Emre Can 5.5 – The former Juve player is chosen to pair up with Kroos, he repays the coach with a first half that is not entirely satisfactory. From 46′ Andrich 6 – With him on the pitch, the German midfield becomes more solid. He also becomes dangerous, with a shot from outside in the second half.

Kroos 6 – Last match of the career for the former Real Madrid champion. He doesn’t start off well, but then as the minutes pass he shows his greatness and service to the team.

Sane 5 – He does not emerge on the right side of the attack. Not surprisingly, his match lasts just one half. From 46′ Wirtz 7 – Definitely more incisive than his teammate who comes on. He always keeps the Spanish defense on edge and, at the end of the second half of the game, scores the goal that takes the match to extra time.

Gundogan 5.5 – He plays between the lines, not refining his maneuver as usual. He also has trouble when he is a few meters behind. From 57′ Fullkrug 6,5 – He gives more weight to the attack, keeping the central defenders more occupied and freeing up space for his teammates. He also comes close to scoring several times, trying until the final whistle.

Musial 5.5 – Offensively, it is certainly the worst performance of his European Championship with only a few ideas in extra time. He does not hold back, however, in running and sacrifice.

Havertz 4.5 – Chosen once again as an offensive reference, he has a couple of chances in the first half of the match but does not take advantage of them. Not very lucid also during the second half, adding another error that weighs on the final result. From 91′ Anton 6 – He comes in to rebalance the team in extra time, but there was little to report in his performance.

Julian Nagelsmann 6 – His Germany exits the European Championship at home after 120 minutes of fire, in what in some ways was an early final. Regret for the goal conceded just before the possible penalties.
