Interviewed by Corriere della Serathe president of Serie A Lorenzo Casini spoke about the Mulè amendmentwhich would bring the League to greater autonomy from the FIGC: “a fair role would be recognized for the professional sector, with benefits for the entire grassroots movement, such as the valorization of young people and the protection of territories. We are happy with the attention they have decided to give to this issue”.
Why this need?
“Serie A, in addition to contributing 1 billion euros per year in tax to the State, to be clear, gives 50% of its revenue to the entire movement in audiovisual rights: that is, 130 million euros, of which 13 directly to the federation. Mutuality is a good thing, let’s be clear, but having federal bodies where Serie A has no weight is unreasonable”.
Would there be a risk of disputes with UEFA and FIFA?
“No, because the amendment clarifies that the leagues are recognized for sporting purposes by the federation and does not provide for their exit from the federal system or the international sporting order. All the teams have decided twice unanimously to go in this direction”.
Are you afraid of interference from the federation?
“It is a measure for the good of the federal system. We now need mediated interventions that improve the functioning of sports institutions”
