Messi misses, Dibu Martinez still decisive: Argentina advances on penalties in Copa America

Argentina earns its pass to the Copa America semifinals with a thrill. The World Champion National team prevailed, in the Italian night, over Ecuador only after penalty kicks. Scaloni’s boys took the lead in the first half with a goal by Lisandro Martinez but in the added time, in the 95th minute, Kevin Rodriguez scored the equalizer. Extra time was goalless and the match was therefore extended to penalty kicks.

The news is that Leo Messi missed his penalty. Luckily for him and the Seleccion, Diu Martinez was in goal, neutralizing the penalties of Angel Mena and Alan Minda. Julian Alvarez, Mac Allister and Montiel then scored for the Albiceleste, while John Yeboah and Jordy Caicedo scored for the Tricolor. Otamendi’s penalty was decisive for Argentina, which can give his national team a sigh of relief.
