Through its official channels, Al Ittihad announced its separation from Marcelo Gallardo. The Argentine coach leaves the Saudi club after a disastrous season, in which he failed to win trophies and finished the championship at a sideral distance from Al Hilal and Al Nassr. His place could now be taken by Stefano Pioli.
Forty-eight years old, the former River Plate coach arrived in Riyadh in November, replacing Nuno Espirito Santo, but he was unable to revive the team and exploit the talent of its stars, above all Karim Benzema, with whom he also had some disagreements.
