The Girona confirmed the departure of Borja Garcia. Having finished his contract with the Spanish club on June 30, the 33-year-old midfielder is saying goodbye after 8 seasons in red and white. A heavy farewell, having become one of the most important players in the club’s recent history.

The attacking midfielder born in 1990 was part of both of Girona’s promotions to the Primera Division, in 2017 and 2022, and is the third player with the most appearances for the club in professional football alongside Àlex Granell (233), behind only Cristhian Stuani (248) and Juanpe (246).

A life at Girona. The Madrid playmaker arrived at Girona in 2015 from Córdoba and left in 2020 for Huesca. However, a year later he returned to his homeland in 2021, becoming one of the architects of the club’s return to the Spanish top flight. In the 2022-2023 season he made just 11 appearances and this season he has not even made the first team squad, hampered by injuries.

Girona’s final farewell. “Borja García’s career undoubtedly reflects the story of a talented footballer who found Girona to be the best place to consolidate his career. His dedication, talent and professionalism have been fundamental to the team and his commitment has left an indelible mark on the club’s history,” the statement concluded.
