Spain floods Georgia. Kvaratskhelia in the game for 70 minutes

Spain won 4-1 and is even more of a candidate for a place in the Olympus of this European Championship. Georgia’s dream seemed to materialize in the nineteenth minute, when Le Normand – scared by Kvaratskhelia – beat his own goalkeeper Unai Simon on a cross from Kakabadze. The one-nil score, however, did not scare the Red Furies who found the equalizer at the end of the first half, with a low shot that beat a Mamardashvili who was having a great night, almost as if to underline how he is one of the best in his role in Europe.

In the second half, however, Spain’s technical qualities emerged. Fabian Ruiz’s goal, left alone at the far post, is the further watershed of a match that takes place when Kvaratskhelia shoots from 60 metres, missing the big target by a few centimetres. Then it’s Nico Williams, with a dribble, and Dani Olmo, elegant and precise, who scores the final 4-1.

These are the words of Fabian Ruiz, Spain midfielder, after the 4-1 win against Georgia. “We were in a bit of a hurry because we couldn’t find space, they were waiting for that, to defend and go on the counterattack. With Rodri’s goal we found calm, without haste, in the second half they lowered the pace. And the goals arrived that we were looking.”
