Collovati on Italy’s elimination: “Lack of talent and no leader in the team”

Fulvio Collovatiworld champion in 1982, spoke about Italy’s elimination from Euro 2024 in an interview with The morning.

The day after is always difficult to experience, but let’s try to analyze what emerged from a nightmare match.
“The players have been told too much in these hours. It seemed to me that their heads were elsewhere.”

What do you mean?
“It’s okay to lose a match, but it’s not okay to play like this, without taking a shot on goal. Now, this is not an Italian mentality. We certainly have to compliment Switzerland, who are an excellent team, but it’s also true that we didn’t play against Maradona’s Argentina. It seemed that the players had gone in without having their heads in them.”

Did he try to explain it to himself?
“First of all, it is now clear that our national team lacks talent.”

And then?
“There is no leader in this team: the Chiellinis, the Bonuccis but also a De Rossi in midfield who takes the team by the hand are missing. Switzerland had Xhaka and we made him look like Pirlo. And he certainly isn’t. You should have put a man on their playmaker like Gasperini did”.
