Italy protested at Olympiastadion, the Azzurri fans do not accept the team’s apologies

The aftermath of the ugly elimination suffered by theItaly at the hands of Swiss at Euro 2024. After the defeat, the Azzurri also suffered protests from the fans present at the Olympiastadion in Berlin. The players, led by Gianluigi Donnarumma, had gone to the stands to apologize for the bad spectacle they had provided. And in response, the fans booed them even more loudly.

As reported by, the fans invited the players to return to the changing rooms, without applause but only protests. An understandable anger, considering the financial sacrifice faced by the fans to follow the national team, receiving in return an international disgrace. Already after the 2-0 goal the fans had stopped chanting for the Azzurri, perceiving that there would be no comeback or reaction of pride.

At the end of the match Donnarumma still wanted to apologize: “We apologize to the fans – he said – and we are sorry for this European Championship which was a huge disappointment. This is very bad, we apologize to everyone. The desire to react, the desire to help one another, was missing.”
