The official statement reads: “Aston Villa are delighted to announce the signing of Ian Maatsen from Chelsea. The 22-year-old was named in the UEFA Champions League Team of the Season after helping Borussia Dortmund reach the final of the competition in 2023/24. Maatsen, who is currently playing for the Netherlands at this summer’s European Championship in Germany, becomes Unai Emery’s second signing of the summer.
The highly regarded left-back enjoyed an impressive loan spell at Dortmund in the second half of last season. Maatsen made 16 appearances in the Bundesliga and seven in the Champions League, scoring the goal in the club’s quarter-final triumph against Atletico Madrid. Welcome, Ian!”.
