Final result: Georgia-Portugal 2-0
(Report cards by Matteo Trevisi)
GEORGIA
Mamardashvili 7.5 – A wall. The Valencia goalkeeper’s golden moment continues as he is invincible and gives security to his defence. He flies on the direct conclusion under the Dalot intersection.
Kakabadze 6.5 – He rarely goes beyond the opponent’s half of the pitch but is good at containing Pedro Neto on that side.
Gvelesians 6.5 – It is often thought that sliding into the area is dangerous, but he does it perfectly and opposes Ronaldo’s safe throw.
Kashia 6.5 – He is the defensive leader of the team. Not technically clean but he doesn’t let Ronaldo and anyone who passes by him breathe.
Lokhoshvili 7 – He risks something due to a repeated hold on Ronaldo in the area. Deployed as the fifth left, he participates in the construction of the Georgian dam. He is also decisive in the other half of the field when he wins the penalty that will make it 2-0. From the 63rd minute Tsitaishvili 6 – Enters to reinforce the fort.
Dvali 6.5 – It is the emblem of this Georgia. After a back and forth in the area, he slips and manages to deflect CR7’s shot which in all probability would have ended in the net.
Chekvetadze 6.5 – Brings quality to Georgian dribbling. He always manages to find the right path that gives vent to his maneuvers.
Kochorasvili 6.5 – When he’s not busy chopping wood in the middle of the pitch, he cleans up the few balls that pass his way during setup.
Kiteishvii 6.5 – It’s thehombre vertical of this Georgia. She never goes horizontal and immediately looks forward to reverse the situation.
Mikautadze 8 – Absolute dominator in the evening in Gelsenkirchen. He believes in Antonio Silva’s mistake. He makes the ball and with extreme clarity provides the assist for Kvara’s goal. He is glacial, then, in achieving the rigor that definitively sends the Georgian people into ecstasy.
Kvaratskhelia 7.5 – After Conte’s certificate of trust, he drags his Georgia along. He takes advantage of his teammate’s assist and with a deadly left foot he scores the goal that puts Georgia among the best 16 in Europe, their first participation in the continental competition.
Willy Sagnol 8 – If Georgia qualifies for the round of 16 it owes a lot to its French coach. Defense of the penalty area as if it were a fort and sharp restarts that take Portugal by surprise.
PORTUGAL
It costs 6 – Not guilty of the goals, for the rest of the match he is a non-paying spectator
Dalot 6 – From a continuous solution to Portugal’s offensive. He can also often be found inside the opponent’s penalty area.
Pereira 5 – They attack little in his area but he also contributes to Portugal’s bad evening.
Silva 4 – Shock start for him. During the setup phase he falls asleep and gives away the ball which leads to the opponents’ goal. He continues his goal by committing the penalty foul on Lochosvili. From the 66th minute Semedo 6 – Enters to create superiority up front and has the ball on his feet to close the gap but Mamardashvili denies him the goal.
Ignacio 5.5 – Georgia gives him a lot of field and, perhaps, he even does well. Many errors in the setup phase that slow down the maneuver.
Neto 5.5 – Too many flourishes and not enough substance. Too many times he lowers his head and goes straight down the wing, ending up crashing into defenders. From 76′ Jota sv
Palhinha 6 – The best of the two midfielders fielded by the team. He puts an end to two good opposing counterattacks and, with the ball at his feet, always releases his better positioned teammate. Despite this, he was recalled to the bench at half-time. From 46′ R. Neves 5.5 – He enters the pitch very badly and, after 8 minutes, gets a yellow card. He is unable to give speed to the maneuver.
J. Neves 5 – He is unable to give geometry to the midfield and ends up being excluded from the ball rotation.
Coincecao 6 – It lights up intermittently. Two good shots on the right side of the field but he fails to make a complete impact.
Ronaldo 5 – He’s more concerned with protesting than scoring his first goal in this European Championship. He never manages to free himself in the area and only knocks once with a free kick from thirty meters. From 66′ Ramos 5.5 – The offensive reference changes, but not the substance. He doesn’t find space and doesn’t scare his opponents.
Felix 6.5 – On the pitch due to Lealo’s disqualification, he starts timidly then tries to drag Portugal along. On two occasions, he breaks free at the limit and scares Mamardashvili. He is a candidate to take over the AC Milan player’s shirt in the round of 16 too.
Roberto Martinez 5 – His Portugal was already certain of going first in the group, but what we saw tonight can’t go very far. We need to reset after this defeat and find some players who seem to have lost their best edge.
