Together with João Félix, also the technical commissioner Roberto Martinez attended yesterday’s press conference ahead of Georgia-Portugalthird match of Group F of Euro 2024. We start with some previews of today’s starting line-up, which will certainly see Diogo Costa wearing the starting shirt.
First statements. “We prepared the match to win, I believe that the integrity of the tournament is fundamental. It is an important match because the result will show who will qualify and who will not. Georgia played a very interesting European Championship, they could have beaten the Czech Republic in last action of the match. They were very competitive against Turkey. We must continue with the same concentration and win”, said coach Martinez.
Small passage on I dream of winning the European Championships with Portugal and until where Italy can go by Luciano Spalletti: “I am the coach of Portugal, I can’t just dream. I have to work every day. The generation we have is wonderful, very committed to the national team. Our goal is clear: to make our fans’ dreams come true. Mine experience tells me that there are no favorites – the words taken from Record -, there are more than 10 winners at the European Championships.
There are candidates, but the favourites… I feel that Portugal is in that group, and so is Italy – Martinez guaranteed -. They are very competitive teams, they grow in tournaments and adapt to each match. It all depends on how the teams improve at the European Championships. I am extremely proud to coach Portugal, the passion, the culture, the meaning… I learned a lot about what the national team gives to the emigrants. I feel a great responsibility and I am very proud to lead this team.”
