Ukraine chases away the ghosts of another defeat – which perhaps would have been decisive – and beats Slovakia, returning to the race for qualification to the round of 16. In Düsseldorf it ends 1-2, Rebrov’s choices – initial and during the match – were rewarded: Schranz deceived with the second center in two matches, Shaparenko and Yaremchuk turned the ball around in the second half.
Now Group E is really in the balance: waiting for tomorrow’s match between Romania and Belgium, there are three teams in the lead with 3 points and there is the risk of having four teams tied with 90′ to go in the group stage. Slovakia was perhaps lulled after the lead obtained in the 18th minute and was perhaps convinced that they could achieve a second consecutive success too easily. An illusion that lasted until the start of the second half, when Mudryk and co found the equalizer with Shaparenko. A goal that perhaps they would have already deserved in the first half, due to the many opportunities created, and which they managed to repeat ten minutes from the end, thanks to the flash of Yaremchuk, who came on in place of an impalpable Dovbyk.
That’s the end of it, and now all attention will be turned to tomorrow night’s match. Meanwhile, Ukraine enjoys three vital points, while Slovakia will look back on the mistakes they made.
