Candela: “France, something more could have been done. Without Mbappé, winning is difficult”

Interviewed by Sky Sports, Vincent Candela he commented on France’s draw against Holland yesterday: “Something more could have been done. There are many champions, so the coach must do something more. It’s true, Mbappé wasn’t there but there are many champions , she’s the big favorite but it’s time to prove it on the pitch.”

Was it the right choice for Rabiot to stay at Juventus?
“It’s the right choice. We don’t know if Rabiot will return to Juve. Has Thiago Motta said yes? Let’s see.”

Kephren Thuram?
“I know he did well. I don’t know who is stronger between him and Marcus who got on well at Inter. Roma are also very interested in little Thuram, I’m happy for my friend Lilian with whom we fought so many battles together. He also played for Juve so it could be an advantage. I can’t say his qualities or his defects, I don’t know him well enough to judge him.”

Can France win without Mbappé?
“It’s difficult. I’ve always said that Griezmann and Dembélé don’t drive me crazy. Mbappé is fundamental, he gets the ball and makes the difference. Without him it’s very difficult.”

Who can be the favorite for the European Championship?
“There’s Spain who play very well, press high, are physically well and have many qualities. Germany is always on the ball. Then I put Italy but not because I live there but the results say so. They won the last European when they were not favourites, they have won four World Cups and have the DNA of winners. Italy can compete with everyone in the one-off match.”
