Calzona: “I’m sorry that the results at Napoli were not what we hoped for”

The technical commissioner of Slovakia Francesco Calzonainterviewed by today’s edition of The Republic, returned to his experience at Napoli. The coach replaced the sacked Walter Mazzarri to try to reverse the trend but in the end, at the end of the season, he achieved a tenth place and no qualification for the next European competitions:

“I really wanted to do well on the blue bench, I’m very attached to the city and the team: for this reason I’m still sorry that the results weren’t what we hoped for, beyond the improvements highlighted by quite a few parameters. In football It happens. They put the label “second” on me, but I’ve always been a coach. Does the assistant surgeon know how to operate or not?

I love Napoli very much and I wanted to help the team. But the season had taken a wrong turn and there was no way to reverse course. I will never regret having accepted the double role, I hold onto the pride of having coached Napoli, even if it lasted for three months and didn’t go as I had hoped. I wish the Azzurri to return to the top and I look forward with my head held high, without bitterness. I’m on a mission for Slovakia and I’m very proud of it.”
