Italy-Albania, UEFA opens disciplinary proceedings against the Azzurri’s opponents

A Signal Iduna Park dressed largely in red was the setting for the debut of theItaly at the European Championship in the match againstAlbania last Saturday, with the Albanian fans who filled the stadium to try to encourage Sylvinho’s national team, but ended up in the crosshairs of UEFA for their behavior inside the Westfalenstadion in Dortmund.

UEFA itself has opened disciplinary proceedings against Albania, as communicated by the same highest body of European football: “UEFA has initiated disciplinary proceedings in accordance with article 55 of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations (DR) following the match of the phase UEFA EURO 2024 group stage between Italy and Albania (2-1) played on 15 June 2024 in Dortmund, Germany”.

– Throwing objects, Art. 16(2)(b) DR
– Lighting of fireworks, Art. 16(2)(c) DR
– Invasion of the playing field, Art. 16(2)(a) DR
– Transmission of a provocative message unsuitable for a sporting event, Art. 16(2)(e) DR

The ball now passes to the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body, which will be called to decide on the issue after having concluded all the relevant assessments, also analyzing the videos and images from the stadium’s security cameras.
