Carlos Augusto talks about himself: “I left Corinthians to go to Serie B, but I made history at Monza”

The Inter side, Carlos Augustowas the protagonist of an interview with the microphones of TNT Sports and he tried to rewind the tape of his career to talk about the first kicks he gave to a ball even before he landed in Italy, at Monza: “I spent my whole life at Corinthians, but when I became a starter I ended up leaving team and leave for Monza to play in the Italian Serie B. I remember that many spoke of a difficult decision, because I was leaving a top Brazilian club to go down to the Italian Serie B. But in the end I think it was good for me to adapt to football there I also made history in Monza: we achieved the first promotion to Serie A in the club’s history and this year I joined Inter. Now I’m enjoying the moment.”

Italian football is difficult for any foreigner to assimilate, even if ultimately it proves to be an incredible training ground for defenders: “It’s very tactical, you work a lot on defence. Even in Serie B you often saw this: it was very difficult – declared Carlos Augusto – attacking these teams. When I arrived at Inter I noticed the total difference in pace; when I was in Monza and played against big clubs, the difference was very clear. So you feel this pace a lot League is much more intense, but in Italy the intensity is equally high and the defensive part is also very careful.”

The moment of landing in the Nerazzurri marked the Brazilian winger: “When you arrive in the team, and even more so in a team that has played in the Champions League final, it is very difficult for you to fit into the group. I think the most It was difficult to understand the coach’s playing method, but in the end I learned it quite quickly because it is a very united group, we really felt like a family, and this helped our season style of play and I managed to have a good sequence of games, playing practically every game.”

Thanks to the performances offered with the Inter shirt, on 6 October 2023 Carlos Augusto was called up by the Brazilian national team for the first time. But the new coach Dorival Júnior hasn’t contacted him yet: “The moment I arrived in the national team wasn’t the best. Of course, given that I had gone to Europe a long time ago and in the end I went to Serie B, I wasn’t very not even known among the fans and this ends up weighing a bit. I think I was very calm, on the occasions I had I tried to do my best.

Of course, finishing without winning the match is a little different – continued the former Monza player -, but the main objective is to continue, play a sequence of matches with the national team, have more minutes at Inter and see what promises this new season. Dorival hasn’t called me, but I’m very calm, I’m rooting for the Seleção to do their best in the Copa América and for them to return to the top of the world again.”
