Salvini has a request for Milan: “A coach who can make me win a derby”

Matteo Salvini has a request for the Milan. Engaged in the electoral campaign for the European elections, the leader of the Northern League spoke on the sidelines of a demonstration held in Catania, also about the possible arrival of Paulo Fonseca on the bench of the Rossoneri club, of which Salvini is famously a fan: “I’m not talking about football. I’m waiting to win a derby again, I’m expecting a coach who will make me win a derby after six consecutive defeats”.

In recent days, the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport had thus spoken of the possibility of seeing Fonseca on the bench of Devil: “I don’t know him, there’s confusion with all these names and it’s already June. I hope my son can see something win.”

The six derbies in a row are a record. Salvini’s reference, as is known, is to the negative streak (for the Rossoneri) of six ongoing derbies between Inter and Milan, which has made Stefano Pioli the coach who has lost the most derbies in Milan, for a total of nine. By winning all the matches played from 18 January 2023 to 22 April 2024, Inzaghi’s team equaled the record set by Milan on two occasions – from 5 February 1911 to 9 February 1913 and from 30 May 1946 to 11 April 1948 – and consequently, the next one could also establish the new record for the all-time positive streak (seen from Inter’s perspective in this case) in the Milan derby.
