Ancelotti and the return to Real Madrid: “I asked if they had already forgotten about 2014”

Carlo Ancelotticoach of Real Madrid, on the eve of the Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund gave a long interview to El Chiringuito: “My worries in these days leading up to it are related to injuries. An accident can happen in training and a player can be lost, but nothing more. We are concentrated. We are aware that it will be difficult, like all finals, and that there will also be to suffer against a team like Borussia Dortmund.”

On his return to Real Madrid.
“I have always had an excellent relationship with the president and with José Ángel Sánchez. One day I called him to see if I could have some players… So we talked a bit. I knew that Zidane was leaving and so I asked him if he had found a coach. He said ‘not yet, we’re looking at some profiles’. Then I tell him: ‘You have to sign the best for Real Madrid!’ He asked me who was the best and I replied like this: ‘What, have you already forgotten what happened in 2014?’ Then we started joking and it all happened very quickly.”

How do you learn to manage tension?
“I meditate when I play sports. I like to isolate myself, without music or anything else. When I run or work I isolate myself. Me alone, without music or anything that speaks to me. It’s my way of meditating. Stress management comes naturally to me. Football it is very important in my life because it is my passion, but it is not too important. The most important thing for me is the tranquility that surrounds me. That there are no arguments between children, women, couples … This is the thing that gives me peace. The coach told me that you can win, draw or lose for the sadness that reaches the fan, it bothers you in sport and in life you have to continue and learn from defeats and difficult moments.”
