Didier Deschamps, France’s technical commissioner, spoke today at the press conference and took stock of the situation on the choices made, in particular with regards to defence: “Upamecano and Konaté played less towards the end, but during the season they collected a lot minutes. Before coming here, we make sure that every player is prepared. Then we’ll see if they will be starters or not.”
The French selector also focused on the possibility of seeing Benjamin Pavard as a central defender: “Pavard is part of the list… All the players can potentially be starters. His role as a central defender? In their system at Inter he is not really a central defender, they take different positions during the match. Benjamin has great experience, even if he played little in the last competition. Obviously I won’t be able to give everyone the same amount of time on the pitch. But we have to involve every player. But what if They’re there, it’s because I think they have their place.”
