Mertens does not leave Galatasaray: “Why should I stop when things are going well?”

Dries Mertens he won’t be among the protagonists of the European Championship but will continue to be with Galatasaray. After an extraordinary season, culminating with the triumph in the Super Lig, the former Napoli player has effectively announced his stay in the Istanbul club.

“I said I would probably leave after this season, but we started talking to the club again two months ago. Why should I leave when things are going so well here? I don’t say it’s my last year at Galatasaray because my wife doesn’t tell me allows. I enjoy every day I spend on the field. I honestly didn’t think we would have such a good season. It would be senseless to stop now.”

Mertens, 37, has played 51 games this season across all competitions, contributing 12 goals and 19 assists. His contract will expire on June 30 but the Giallorossi should renew for another season.
