The Serie A League published the new regulation today Italian Cup for the next three seasons, namely 2024-2025, 2025-2026 and 2026-2027. Among the most important innovations is certainly the elimination of extra time for all single-match matches that will go from the preliminary round to the quarter-finals. Below is what we read in the press release: “At the end of the regulation 90′, the number of goals scored being equal, the referee will take the penalty shots, in the manner provided for in the “Football Regulations” in the paragraph : “Procedures for determining the winning team of a match”.

However, there is no news regarding the semi-finals and the final: “In these cases, since the overall number of goals scored in the two matches is equal, the teams must play two extra periods lasting 15 minutes each. If the tie persists, the referee decides to have penalty kicks taken, in the manner provided for in the “Football Regulations” in the paragraph: “Procedures for determining the winning team of a match”.

Therefore, the matches that will not go to extra time in the event of a draw in the 90th minute will be those of the preliminary round, those of the thirty-second final, those of the sixteenth final, those of the round of 16 and those of the quarter-finals.
