Empoli, Nicola: “Proud of this salvation, I’m very happy for my boys”

Live TMW

10.51pm – Good evening, friends of TUTTOmercatoWEB! Welcome back to the press room of the Carlo Castellani Computer Gross Arena stadium in Empoli, where the Empoli coach’s press conference will take place in a few minutes Davide Nicola.

00.12 – The press conference begins.

How satisfying was it?
“This is the salvation that made me happy for many other people, more for them than for myself. Starting from the expression our people had. They gave us an extra emotional charge. I’m happy for the players, who have shown me that they have a very high performance. You see, the teams we faced were all tough, because they were in top form or because they were head-to-head. I found everyone in the club happy exemplary professionals. Here we respect the coach’s methodology and there is constant trust. Empoli is to be studied, it is an example, it has the services of a great team but it remains humble. I would add that this group of boys goes down in Empoli’s history I’m proud and happy for my boys.”

Had he done some sort of foil before this match?
“The most important thing was to demonstrate the quality of the work. This is gratifying for me, from a professional point of view it was a great victory. The first half was important, we knew we were taking a risk, but the boys constantly accepted each other against one. We suffered but we also created a lot. Scoring thirty-six points was not easy, we could have been relegated. We must recognize that it is not always possible to reverse a path, but we can change the ending.”

When did you realize the team could do it?
“I don’t have one aspect that I consider more than another. I’ve always repeated the same thing, leveraging the fundamental principles for this journey. The group responded right away, in the first few games I was the one who adapted to them. Then they transformed by accepting the one-on-one and being man. Without the availability of the boys we couldn’t have done anything. Today I liked the spirit, perhaps the only match in which we didn’t put it was in Lecce. This team did they freed themselves from a burden and tried to build a game to be able to do it, we believed until the end and I have the utmost respect for the other teams who fought for salvation and didn’t make it, because it could have happened to us.”

Have you ever thought negatively about not being able to do it?
“We are programmed to think negatively. This is what saved us, perhaps, but an athlete cannot think negatively. It doesn’t make you accept the risk, probably deep down we knew we could do it or not. Accepting it we never stopped believing in it. To do business you have to take risks, our desire to succeed was fundamental. I dedicate this salvation to my former collaborator Rossano Berti, who passed away a month and a half ago.”

00.24 – The press conference ends.
