Vincenzo Montella, Turkey’s coach, explained in a press conference how he came to compose the list of 35 pre-summits for the European Championship which will begin on June 14th. The Italian coach will have to reduce the list to 26 elements a week before the start of the German tournament: “Our selection criteria are based first and foremost on the quality of our players. We made our choice above all to create a group. The team and I my team we watched hundreds of games live,” he said.
“Of course, values off the pitch are as important as football values. The most important criterion was the performance of our players throughout the season but especially in the last stretch of the season. We did not choose to act according to political logic: our choices were made based on what we saw on the pitch and the latest current performances of the players. Let’s remember that we will play at a high level.”
