The hangover from the party, perhaps, hasn’t worn off yet. But today it is time to look back to the future. L’Atalanta yesterday she returned to Bergamo, the day after her triumph in the Europa League, and was welcomed by a huge crowd. The celebrations have been going on without interruption since around 11pm on Wednesday evening and the feeling is that they will continue for a while, because the season is historic, the most important in the club’s history. But the fans are one thing, the protagonists another. The protagonist, in this case: Gian Piero Gasperini.
The meeting with Percassi
Grugliasco’s coach has to decide what to do. On the one hand there is Atalanta, the love of a life, a reality that in eight years, from his arrival onwards, has also become international. On the other there is Napoli, the former Italian champions, a stronger team on paper, potentially a Scudetto winner, which however has lost its way this year: but what better time to take a small step forward than when have nothing to lose? The feeling is that Gasperini is very conflicted. Aurelio De Laurentiis’s proposal certainly tickles his palate, entices him a little. And then he will stay at the Goddess, to the Percassi, convince him to stay. The decisive match will take place today and within a few days Gasp will make a final decision.
Between the importance of a challenge and that of home
Gasperini, in recent days, has been questioned more than once about the future. After having qualified for the Champions League, beating Lecce, he spoke words that foreshadowed indecision: “For me the difference is the challenge, how credible you are in your choices and evaluations, but above all the challenge. The Champions League achieved is extraordinary, but for me the challenge is increasingly important, we will understand everything after the final.” Then, once this final was won, he indulged in a metaphor: “What if I stay at Atalanta? I’m in a situation where you have a wife with three kids but you find a beautiful woman“. We’ll see if the family prevails.
