Roma-Genoa 1-0, the report cards: Lukaku, a poignant film farewell. Retegui doesn’t sting

Final result: Roma-Genoa 1-0

ROME (edited by Patrick Iannarelli)
Svilar 6.5 – He experiences an evening of relative tranquility. In the first half Retegui blocks, but the game is stopped for offside. In the second half he controls and almost never gets into trouble, in full recovery he overcomes Malinovskyi’s poisonous left foot.

Celik 6 – A couple of mistakes affected his match, at least in the first half. Then he grows and manages to limit the errors, especially with Roma with ten men due to Paredes’ red card.

Llorente 6.5 – He concedes a few too many balls, sometimes he falls asleep and leaves the field, too much of the field. Genoa didn’t take advantage of it, then recovered and erased the errors in a second half managed with personality.

Ndicka 7 – He often risks complicating his life, but in the end he is the best of the two central defenders. He blocks three shots towards the target, with the three-man defense he risks even less.

Angelino 6.5 – He almost invents a great goal with the wide midfielder from distance. He always pushes, he can be the added value for the future. From 81′ Mancini sv

Cristante 6 – He gets too stubborn, he starts trying once, twice, three times from distance. He almost never hits the goal, but at least when not in possession he manages to lend his usual hand.

Paredes 4.5 – He preaches a lot and he also scratches badly. There is no lack of effort, but all those balls fired into the area without precision make little sense. Then he invents the genius, a very avoidable red due to who knows what protests.

Ox 6.5 – Maybe he just lacks clarity, but he struggles a lot. It’s a perpetual motion, it never collapses even when you have to get into the trenches.

Baldanzi 6.5 – In an hour in which Roma are stalling and running in circles, he is the only one to do something, to find solutions to the Genoa puzzle. He doesn’t succeed, but at least he tries. From the 63rd minute El Shaarawy 7 – He enters the field with a different attitude, after five touched balls you understand that it’s his night. No goals, but the assist has the same weight.

Pilgrims 5.5 – It is limited to the simple passage, the finishing. Some exchanges yes, but nothing particularly complicated from a geometric point of view. From 63′ Dybala 6 – He enters the pitch and turns on the light, but his match lasts just under half an hour. From 92′ Kristensen sv

Lukaku 6.5 – A poignant film farewell. He doesn’t touch half the ball for 79 minutes, he even devours a good opportunity in the open field. Then the header and the goal, perhaps the last with the Giallorossi shirt. From 92′ Abraham sv

Daniele De Rossi 6.5 – What do you want it to be, pass it all. Just a little time and eventually you’ll even laugh about it. Having arrived as a ferryman, he closed the last season at the Olimpico with a victory, in front of his people: next year will be a good test after a season that began crooked and was straightened out at the last minute, also proposing some interesting football ideas. But we will need to return to the Champions League to close the gap with our rivals.

GENOA (edited by Marco Pieracci)
Martinez 6.5 – He knows what to do with his feet, he manages even the most thorny situations. And it’s a good thing: at least a couple of interventions before giving up.

Vogliacco 6 – Maximum concentration in coverage, he immediately closes on Pellegrini’s cut. But he is unable to counter Lukaku. From ’81’ Vitinha 6 – Immediate impact, it becomes dangerous.

De Winter 5.5 – He takes over Big Rom, holds his own in the physical duel but is brutally anticipated on the cross that decides the match.

Vasquez 6 – Of Gilardino’s three central defenders, the one who moves forward the most knocks weakly with his head on Svilar’s door.

Spence 5.5 – He wins the eternal ballot on the right lane with Sabelli, not the one with Angelino who puts him down in the duel on the wing.

Frendrup 6 – The man of substance in the midfield, starts the motor and turns it off at the final whistle. He could also score, but Ndicka sacrifices himself. From 90+1′ Ankeye sv

Badelj 6 – He crossed the finish line of 250 Serie A appearances, celebrating the renewal earned on the pitch with another impressive performance. From ’81’ Malinovskyi 6 – Makes Svilar fly.

Strootman 6 – From the 1st minute in the stadium where it all began, a master of ball management: he could write a treatise on this. Out to the applause of the Olimpico. From 67′ Thorsby 6 – Protagonist in the final assault.

Martin 6 – Celik raises his center of gravity to prevent his descents, as soon as he sees a space open up behind him he moves in decisively.

Ekuban 5.5 – Rewarded with ownership after a convincing entry against Sassuolo, he attacks little in depth to give verticality to the move. From 67′ Gudmundsson 6 – He changes pace, can’t find the spark.

Retegui 5.5 – Exhausting work on the flanks of Llorente and Ndicka, waiting to receive balls to attack. He bangs with the usual ferocity, but it doesn’t sting.

Alberto Gilardino 5.5 – High pressure to keep the enemy away from the area forces Roma to shoot exclusively from outside. He succeeds for a while, but paradoxically the inertia changes when he finds himself with the extra man. Maybe he could have dared a little earlier.
