After going through to the playoffs despite the defeat against Perugia, the Carrarese coach Antonio Calabro commented: “I confirm what I have always maintained: Perugia is a very strong team, one of the strongest teams in the lot. Many Grifone players last year played in Serie B, elements of experience combined with young prospects: this is a fact and the performance in the regular season today has a relative weight.
The fact of having more than eleven starters allows you to guarantee a good level of physical integrity in the squad of players. There is bitterness about the final result, but the objective was to progress to the next round and we achieved this fundamental objective. Also because on a psychological level we were the underdog team, Perugia had nothing to lose. It’s a result that doesn’t reward us, also the result of a possible drop in tension in the last few minutes, but it’s also a result that shouldn’t ignore Carrarese’s almost immediate reaction to the one-goal deficit.
We are a team made up of excellent players who want to be seen and assert themselves also because the boys are practically all at the height of the maturity of their respective careers. I was lucky enough to arrive in an environment that can count on a healthy club and the availability of the players, two elements without which the coaches’ ideas are short-lived. And then, all together, we believe in it, we believe every week that we can overcome increasingly challenging tests.”
