The profile for the Toro bench has a name and surname. President Cairo and director Vagnati have streamlined the list, the big favorite has become Paolo Vanoli. Born in Varese in 1972, as a footballer he was one of the heroes of Parma’s golden days, achieving the feat in the 1998/1999 season of winning the Italian Cup, the Italian Super Cup and above all the UEFA Cup. As a coach, however, he had a long stint in the Italian Under team and then followed Conte in his adventures at Chelsea and Inter as a technical collaborator, before finally starting his own business and managing Spartak Moscow and Venice. Precisely with the lagoon players he has Serie A in his sights, with 90 minutes to go he is two points behind Como and can dream of direct promotion or go through the play-offs. This is why the talks with President Cairo will take a little longer, but Toro and Vanoli have already found a general agreement to start together starting from July, with the start of the new season. The training camp will still be in Pinzolo, just like last year, although we are waiting to know whether Buongiorno and his teammates will be able to qualify for Europe.
And Ivan Juric? The coach also looks around, considering that in a month and a half he will find himself without a contract. His future could be in England or France, where he is courted by several clubs, or perhaps still in Italy, with Monza who see him as Palladino’s heir or possible return horses in Genoa or Verona. The Croatian, however, would like to make a further leap in quality in his career, even though his three years at the helm of Toro were not so exciting. The doors of Napoli could open for him: owner De Laurentiis had already included him in the cast of 40 profiles for the post-Spalletti, now the Neapolitans have dramatically downsized after the scudetto and Juric could be the right man for the reconstruction. The almost ex-Granata player will have to overcome the competition of Pioli and Conte, but he too is in the running
