Andrea Barzagli, owner of Italian football in the BBC. And now winemaker and commentator

He is one of the best players in Italian football of the 1910s. Andrea Barzagli became one after Wolfsburg, when his career seemed to have taken a downward phase, moving to Juventus. A few months of difficulty, then the explosion with the arrival of Antonio Conte as coach. To form the BBC – with Bonucci and Chiellini, Buffon in goal – which brought many joys to the Juventus fans, some even to Italy in the European Championship with Conte as selector.

Physically strong, fast, difficult to jump, Barzagli was an asphyxiating scorer. He played as the right-hand man in the three-man defence, but between Palermo and Wolfsburg he had still shown great quality, so much so that he won the Bundesliga in the 2008-09 season, as a starter, as well as the 2006 World Cup, even if as a reserve.

In his second life, the one after football, Barzagli decided to invest as a partner in “Le Casematte”, a winery located in a hamlet of the municipality of Messina. In 2019 the turnover was around 400 thousand euros. “I use my image very little to promote my company – Barzagli told in 2022 TimeStrict – I think my name could only damage it, because the combination of football and wine is not well received. In the end, however, the quality of the product matters a lot.” As well as obviously staying in the orbit of the balloon by being a commentator DAZN for Serie A. Today Andrea Barzagli turns 43.
