Volpe: “Be careful of Taranto’s anger in the playoffs. Here are the three new talents of Serie C”

TMW exclusive

The Serie C playoffs will begin in less than 12 hours. The usual Russian roulette where anything can happen, without the slightest holds barred. To try to draw a trajectory to follow in the next month of football, in search of the last Serie B pass, the editorial team of TuttoMercatoWeb.com asked those who experienced those playoffs in the last two years like the former coach of Virtus Entella, Gennaro Volpe.

Mister, before we dive into the playoffs, let’s start by taking a look at the regular season which recently ended. What can be said?
“This year too, Serie C has proven to be full of surprises, both at the top and at the bottom of the rankings of the three groups. Mantua and Juve Stabia, for example, were not favored by the forecast at the starting line, while Cesena was knew that it was one of the strongest teams in Group B. Finally, remaining in that group, I believe that Torres deserves applause for the sensational tournament they completed and finished in second place.”

In terms of singles, which are the names that most impressed you?
“I’ll mention three: one for each group. The first is Matthew May, offensive winger born in 2002 for Pro Vercelli who managed to confirm himself in a historic place like the Piedmont one after what he did with Fermana. The second is, however, Francesco RuoccoTorres’ attacking midfielder, while the last one is Lorenzo Sgarbi Naples school today at Avellino”.

Now let’s really get into the playoffs. We leave tomorrow but many teams will enter later. Predictions impossible to make?
“Absolutely. I have experienced them in the last two years and the success or failure of your journey depends on many factors. There is great anticipation and therefore how you get to the first match is fundamental. Also the advantage enjoyed by the second-placed teams, for me , it’s light. Obviously Vicenza, Carrarese and Benevento are top-level teams, but watch out for Capuano’s Taranto: they will take the field with a mix of anger, causing penalties, and quality that could annoy many.”

Many highlight the fact that entering the race later has the advantage of guaranteeing you fewer matches to face, but there are those who, however, speak of the long break without official matches as a significant obstacle..
“The wait, objectively, is very long and it is difficult to keep your concentration high as well as your physical fitness. Also because friendlies, from this perspective, help you up to a certain point. Having said this, it is always better to have a limited number of races ahead compared to a longer journey”.

From playoffs to playouts, what can we say?
“The play-offs are a psychodrama for which strong nerves are essential.”

We close with a thought on Virtus Entella and the end of your long relationship.
“They have been two beautiful and intense years. With 144 points won, two playoff quarter-finals and a Coppa Italia semi-final. In football, however, you travel fast and I am already ready for the next adventure.”
