Group B of Serie D only saw the team promoted to Serie C on the last day, a team that subverted all possible initial predictions, because if the group favorite was Piacenza, Caldiero Terme came out on top, who reached the last 90′ of the regular season with a one-point advantage over the Emilians; maintained. And so the Venetian square celebrates its arrival in professionalism, with the Sports Director Fabio Brutti who spoke exclusively to the microphones of TuttoMercatoWeb.com.
Yours is a complex group, where Piacenza started with all the underdogs. In light of the facts, what kind of championship was it?
“The summary is right, when we saw the groups in the summer we were all convinced that Piacenza was the team that had to win, so much so that we had set ourselves the playoffs as an objective, fifth place, because there were not only the red and whites to fear, but also teams like Desenzano and Pro Palazzolo. No initial thoughts were on the first place. However, we knew we had assembled a good team, we had achieved all of our transfer objectives, and even if the initial friendlies did not smile on us. , as well as the Italian Cup, during the season we realized that we had a tough squad and a particular strength. At that point we said to ourselves that we had to try.”
And you did it.
“Yes, even if it was hard to play everything on the last day. Last week was very long, in part we were also worried, because we knew we were playing the season against a renowned place which also had on its side a city which until The last one pushed: really a lot of honor for Piacenza and Piacenza. Perhaps this was the extra boost for us.”
On Sunday, at half-time of the match against Villa Valle, you were in Serie C. Was there any concern when the Bergamo team halved the deficit?
“I would be a liar to say no. We ended the first half 4-0 in our favour, but in the second half they even came close to scoring the third goal: I was very worried, so much so that the president was also annoyed by my nervousness (laughs, ed. Fortunately, everything ended well.”
On your personal level, a small parenthesis at Hellas Verona, then the return to Caldiero: why this choice?
“Among all things, I have been Director of Caldiero for ten years, but I had the opportunity to be in the technical management of the Veronese youth sector, working closely with Massimo Margiotta, who I want to thank so much for the experience I had: I had the opportunity to meeting many young people and seeing what football is like in Serie A, Primavera 1 is the same on an organizational level. These are lessons that I can relate to. However, when my president called me back, telling me that he wanted to start from me by changing some things a bit. I couldn’t say no, I also have a friendship with him as well as a professional relationship: for me Caldiero is a second family.”
At Caldiero he did an excellent job before his temporary farewell: returning was risky…
“Yes, I had done a good job here, winning the Promotion and Excellence championships, and now I find myself in Serie C. When I returned I had no pressure, the initial task was to re-establish. Then we shifted the objective to raising the “Looking at fifth place, the risk was calculated.”
Let’s get to the present: a week of proper celebration. But are we already thinking about the future?
“We still have to talk to each other in the club, out of good luck we didn’t say anything until Sunday. But we have clear ideas, and a large part of this group will be reconfirmed; from there, the right additions will be made. Certainly in Serie C we don’t want to make the appearance, we have always wanted to consolidate ourselves in every category, we will do the same in professionalism too. By knowing the president with ideas and competence we will make ourselves respected”.
