Bologna, the mayor proposes honorary citizenship to Saputo

(ANSA) – BOLOGNA, 06 MAY – The mayor of Bologna Matteo Lepore has proposed conferring honorary citizenship on the president of Bologna calcio Joey Saputo. The Municipality of Bologna announced this in a note, specifying that the proposal will now be voted on by the city council. The Canadian entrepreneur took over Bologna in 2014, when the rossoblù were in Serie B, immediately regaining the top category. After fluctuating seasons, this year Bologna finds itself in fourth place with three matchdays to go, in what is its best season in recent decades.

“Bologna’s bond with Joey Saputo – says Lepore – certainly passes through the commitment and passion with which he leads the BFC, which sees in this season the culmination of many sacrifices and determination. But it doesn’t stop there only. In the ten years since his arrival in the city, Saputo has learned to know and love Bologna. This is demonstrated by his increasingly longer periods of stay in the city and the attention he pays to many initiatives in our area.

For this reason I proposed to the city council to grant Saputo honorary citizenship, in recognition of his being fully part of our community. A valuable entrepreneur, a friend and a full citizen of Bologna”. (ANSA).
