The Government wants to get its hands on Italian football: Gravina calls an emergency meeting

The specter of a new government agency scares Italian football. According to reports from gazzetta.it, the Government is in fact developing the possibility of establishing a new independent authority to supervise football accounts. But also deciding who can register for the championships. It would be called Agency for the economic and financial supervision of professional sports clubs and in fact it would take the place of CoViSoC, the autonomous but still internal body of the Football Federation which is responsible for supervising the regular administrative and financial management of football clubs..

The intention would emerge from a document already prepared and sent to both the FIGC and CONI. There are still many points to be clarified, but in fact this agency would remove the decision on registrations for the championship from the Federal Council, providing for a binding opinion. It would answer to Palazzo Chigi or the Ministry of Sport and would be financed at the expense of the clubs themselves, with a total contribution of 2.5 million euros per year.

Gravina summons the presidents. Once made aware of the initiative, we read on the online pages of the rosea, the president of the Football Federation would have called an emergency summons for Monday at 6pm the presidents of the federal components (Serie A, B, C, D, referees, coaches and soccer players). The fear is that this project could undermine the autonomy of sport from politics. An aspect, it is worth remembering, that is also very dear to the International Olympic Committee, which strictly prohibits interference from the political world on the sporting world.
