Sigh of relief for Tonali: two months of disqualification in the UK, return to the pitch remains in August

Sandro Tonali can smile: he will be able to return to the pitch with Newcastle in August. This is because the Football Association has decided to impose a fine of 20 thousand pounds – approximately 23 thousand euros – plus a two-month absence from the pitch. A situation that reinforces (and not adds to) the stop that had already been in place for ten months and which, in fact, would have ended in the summer. On the other hand, Newcastle themselves had had discussions with the FA and were quite optimistic about the lack of further suspensions.

The facts.
Tonali was charged by the FA in March and admitted placing between 40 and 50 bets on football after arriving at Newcastle, including four on the Magpies’ results. The FA said the money placed on bets by Tonali would have been “well in excess of €100,000” (£85,600).

The Football Association fine.
The FA imposed a fine of 20,000 pounds (about 23 thousand euros) and a two-month ban on the Newcastle midfielder.
