Brazil, the statue dedicated to Dani Alves removed in his municipality of birth

Daniel Alves he was sentenced to four and a half years in prison for sexual assault. The crime occurred on December 30, 2022 in the bathroom of a nightclub in Barcelona and the former Juventus, Barcelona and PSG player was in prison for 14 months, before being granted bail on March 20 after paying a bail of one million euros.

The episode obviously caused a stir in Brazil. The citizens of Juazeiro, the municipality of birth of the former full-back, have lobbied to have the statue dedicated to him removed, inaugurated in December 2020 amid controversy: article 21 of the Constitution of the State of Bahia and federal law 6.454/1977 in fact, they prevent a monument or street from being named after a living person.

After the incident involving the player, the statue was damaged twice. The pressure on the municipality increased further after the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Bahia recommended that it be removed and in the end it was. Dani Alves also had an honor received from Bahia, the club where he became professional, withdrawn.
