Roma’s new request to the Lega Serie A: the match against Atalanta on Monday

Roma’s new request to the Lega Serie A regarding the date of the match against Atalanta, a decisive match for qualification for the next Champions League but will be valid for the 36th matchday of Serie A. Friedkin would like to ask to postpone the match to May 13th, a Monday. Not a simple arrangement because the Italian Cup final between Atalanta and Juventus is scheduled for May 15th, a factor that would rule out being able to place the match between Atalanta and Roma on the previous Monday, just two days earlier. On a practical level, nothing would change in Atalanta and Juventus but the League is unlikely to agree to do so because many fans may already have organized to come to Rome on May 15th for the match.

Furthermore, Roma, underlines ‘VoceGiallorossa’, highlights in the letter that there is not yet a date for the recovery of Atalanta-Fiorentina, a match that has never been played due to the illness that occurred to Joe Barone. Due to the European commitments of the two teams, a date has not yet been found to recover the match but it is a crucial match for the race for Europe and the need is to protect the integrity of the competition.

On this last topic, these are the statements released today by the President of the Lega Serie A Lorenzo Casini to the microphones of ‘Radio Anch’io lo Sport’ on ‘Radio Rai 1’: “The single slot is May 22nd, but if both Atalanta and Fiorentina go ahead we will have to think about May 31st or June 2nd. The League is thinking about hypotheses that can safeguard the contemporaneity of the relevant matches for qualification for European competitions. If the Fiorentina goes to the Conference final, June 2nd would be the continuation of the championship.”
