Luis Enrique’s revolution and PSG’s triumph. Mbappe last prima donna (for a little while longer)

Paris Saint-Germain’s announced triumph came from the sofa, three days early. Champion of France for the 12th time in history, no one has done better, 9th since the advent of the Qatar Investment Authority in 2011. Since then the others have only been crumbs: the victory of Montpellier in 2012, Monaco in 2017 and Lille in 2021. The Parisians are too rich, too stronger compared to the competition.

That it is an unequal comparison is enough to look at the amount of wages compared with other clubs. Of the total 734.23 million (gross) of the entire Ligue 1, 292.41 are spent by Paris Saint-Germian, equivalent to 39.83%. The second most expensive team is Marseille with 73.89 million, the third is Monaco with 57.77 (Capology data). On the pitch the path saw a small uphill climb only at the beginning of the season: 0-0 at home with Lorient on the first matchday, 1-1 in Toulouse on the second. And the home defeat against Francesco Farioli’s Nice on the fifth matchday (2-3). It was September 15th and that remained the only knockout he suffered.

The main architect of this ride is undoubtedly Luis Enrique. Several coaches have followed one another in recent years for whom not even the title won was enough: with Christophe Galtier last year it ended rather badly, not even Mauricio Pochettino left an indelible mark the year before. Without some prima donnas like Messi, Neymar and Sergio Ramos the locker room has gained a lot.

However, already established elements such as Ousmane Dembélé and young people on the launching pad such as Bradley Barcola have been included. Elements like Vitinha have grown a lot, but especially Warren Zaire-Emery, who has become a staple at just 17 years old. For the latter, Liuis Enrique had no problem “cutting” a flag like Marco Verratti. The results proved the Asturian right: spectacular football, a team that changes formation according to needs, the championship was won on the bounce and above all still in the running for the Champions League, the club’s true obsession.

The impression is that the environment is healthier and the management itself fully supports Luis Enrique. Even in Mbappé management. The champion is playing his last matches at PSG and since his farewell is practically certain, his use has been simplified, ending up in the coach’s rotations for an intelligent dosage of strength considering the commitments in the Champions League. This did not prevent the attacker from scoring 26 goals, which will certainly lead him to win the title of top scorer for the sixth consecutive year. All he has left now is the big-eared cup, before moving to Madrid. And with him the era of Parisian prima donnas will definitively end.
