Giuseppe Marottamanaging director for the sporting part of Inter, speaks thus to Sports Mediaset on the sidelines of the celebration for the Nerazzurri’s Scudetto: “I had never experienced such an event in terms of intensity and presence of fans.”
What do you mean by creative market?
“It is synonymous with trusting my collaborators, Ausilio and Baccin, who are good at exploring opportunities and offering important players to the club. Together we will then make decisions as we have done in recent years, with courage, accepting that important players choose other destinations but replacing them with dignity. Our policy responds to the sustainability objective which now involves all Italian teams. The players made available were well mixed by Inzaghi and he also played a great role.”
Did Inter win the Scudetto in mid-July with Lukaku’s no?
“There is a component in life that is not considered much, luck. In this circumstance we were lucky: I don’t deny that it was our goal but things then went differently. And we have set up a different attack compared to the project at the start of the transfer window. But we knew of Thuram’s value and that of Lautaro’s confirmation. Then we brought home a guarantee like Sanchez and then Arnautovic, an operation that found economic and technical logic. We are still the most prolific attack, demonstrating that playing together has paid off. Today Calhanoglu scored two goals…”.
How long will Inzaghi’s next contract last?
“Our intention is certainly to extend it, from the president down we all believe that its cycle is still in full swing and can find continuity and a future. Since he arrived he has grown and proven to be a winner, as well as being in symbiosis with the club and the manager. We want to consolidate the model.”
How do you find the incentive to continue the hunt for victories?
“I already have number 21 in my head, the one for Inter’s next Scudetto. And then many other objectives for next season: the Champions League, the Italian Cup. And above all the extraordinary event of the Club World Cup. There are many objectives, but I am always encouraged to put the championship first. Because winning in Italy is always very difficult.”
