TMW Radio
Roberto Scarnecchia former footballer of Naples and Rome, spoke at Sunday Maracana on TMW Radioin view of the match between the Azzurri and Giallorossi at 6pm.
Roma complained about the decision to play against Udinese on April 25th because they would then have had one less day to prepare for Bayer. What do you think?
“It was all a bit exaggerated. The journey is certainly stressful but the twenty minutes are a workout. Roma didn’t stamp their feet for the 20 minutes but for the whole period also considering that Udine is a complicated away match, there are difficulties with the airport because there is no direct line you have to get to Trieste and then take the bus. But that’s okay.”
What do you think about De Rossi?
“De Rossi is a coach who leaves nothing to chance. He is proving it and if he continues to divide the championship from the cups he will achieve great results and he is succeeding.”
About today’s match?
“It’s not easy because Naples is a difficult place. There is so much pressure that it can turn into a positive or negative thing for Roma. There is no doubt that the Giallorossi are superior to Napoli so if they play from Rome they will win the match. We need to understand after Calzona’s statements that Napoli will meet Roma today.”
What do you think of yesterday’s words from the Napoli coach who practically put all the blame on the players?
“Calzona was wrong in everything. She shouldn’t have made those statements. Players attack each other in the changing rooms but in front of the cameras you have to defend them. He could say that they had to change their mentality and not go further but when I heard what he said I was shocked. Also because we don’t know if Calzona will remain next year and it doesn’t take long for the locker room to dump you, it’s wrong but that’s how it is. The image of a player is fundamental, especially if he is young.”
Who worries you the most between Atalanta and Lazio?
“None of the two. If Roma plays the way De Rossi is making them play, there are no calculations to do. Then obviously he has to play from Rome.”
What do you think about Lopetegui’s move to Milan?
“I don’t know him well as a coach but I would have renewed Pioli’s contract for another 5 years. They greatly underestimated the work of the Rossoneri coach, who is someone he is building. I don’t like how society moves. Maldini, for example, called me that he was abroad and told me that he had been sacked and was in Portugal dealing with a player. There are some inexplicable choices.”
