Napoli, Calzona: “Proud and quality performance, we made mistakes on two episodes”

The Napoli coach Francesco Calzona spoke to the microphones of Sky after the home match against Roma drawn 2-2.

There was a shock, but it ended 2-2: why?
“Good question. Because we made mistakes on two episodes. We knew Roma’s strength on set pieces. I made a substitution before the corner for this reason, it wasn’t enough. We conceded 2 goals from set pieces, I don’t know what to say: I can just say that I am happy for the pride and quality performance of the boys.”

So change made for that?
“There were a few minutes left. I removed a boy who had been placed during the game, but who doesn’t have physicality. I needed that and I made the substitution, but it wasn’t enough.”

What is still missing from this team?
“The season is what it is. The boys feel the weight of the not excellent situation on them, but I have the duty to make them train well and to try to make them play football. If the performances are there, the results will come. Granted little by little a team that scores 2 goals per game on average with De Rossi. We put in everything and so you lose very few games.”

How do you and the team come out of this match thinking about Europe?
“I leave feeling refreshed, the team put in a performance. If you don’t win everything becomes more difficult, we have to look game by game and the schedule is not my concern. We think about ourselves, then about the opponent. I’m worried about my team, I want them to From here to the end we play like this.”

Would De Lauretiis need more advice from you on the players to hire or on the next coach?
“De Laurentiis doesn’t need my advice, he’s been playing football for twenty years and he’ll make the best choice. He has a structure, it’s not up to me to give advice to De Laurentiis.”

Is the 2-2 goal a department error?
“We had to attack the ball more, we knew that they play those balls at the near post where they send a lot of players. In Udine they scored by hitting the ball at the near post and sending it directly into the goal. We have to look forward.”
