Parma, Pecchia: “Great show of strength. Benedyczak seems less serious than expected”

Fabio Pecchia, coach of Parma, spoke at the press conference after the 4-0 victory over Lecco, a match which confirmed the mathematical relegation to Serie C for the Lombard club. These are Pecchia’s words reported by Parmalive.com.

Fundamental victory with a large result:
“It was absolutely not a given. An important test of strength, from every point of view. Nice atmosphere, nice climate.”

A comment on the yellow for Camara and Benedyczak’s injury?
“For Benedyczak it seems less serious than it seemed on the pitch, but he is unlikely to be there in this final. Very negative aspect, I feel sorry for him. On the yellow card for Camara, I feel sorry, he really entered with the right attitude, beyond the goal in the pause moment of the match he sparked something, but there will be two more matches after Bari.”

Today both the defense and the attack worked:
“The solidity of the team is this. When you are strong from a mental point of view you can do both things. We scored with a quick comeback. Then there is the quality of the boys. We should be happy, the result in these dimensions. One less, there is still work to do. I want to always be in front of them, to try to understand things. However, they bring the qualities, very positive entries today of the team, we were always alive, talking to each other and helping each other, even in the moment of decline in the second half. This was the strength. A match we deservedly won, we have another match in a few days.”

Today the team didn’t feel the tension of the moment, you had fun:
“At the moment of the goal, which arrived as often happened to us in the first minutes, the team found that lightness in doing things and this helped. In some moments we even went into over-confidence. But I prefer this rather than opposite, it is used to play with the right lightness”.

Bernabé said that nine points are missing, without making calculations:
“That’s what you feel in the dressing room, three games to go, there are nine points up for grabs”

We’ll be back on the pitch on Wednesday. Are you confident you’ll have him back?
“A general evaluation was made on Dennis. There was nothing particular, but we preferred not to take risks. I have a group that allows me to race with choices.”

In the first half the right chain worked, Chichizola also did well today:
“I was talking about solidity. When everyone is fired up it’s like this. Leo was important, he was always ready, the whole line worked well. We had physical and mental solidity, I have faith in my team and today they confirmed it for me, they approached the match with the right attitude.”

In the first leg Lecco put you in difficulty, today did you see Lecco being a bit superb?

“We played a very important match. I remember the first leg well, but it’s in the past now. In the last period they won by playing matches like this, today we didn’t allow them to set up the match in this way”.

By raising Hernani and lowering Bernabé you left room for Degli Innocenti:
“On the first goal we recovered the ball right there. We didn’t leave him free. I made this choice to attack Hernani’s spaces and he manages to cover a lot of the field, working on two players.”

Was the choice to raise Hernani new or have you been studying it for some time?
“I’ve been thinking about it for some time, when the pitch opens he likes to go without the ball. He provides structure, he has finishing, he has the shot. He can do that role great.”

Did you expect a more aggressive Lecco?
“No, it’s just that we revved up. Very important performance.”
