The sporting director of Cagliari Nereo Bonato spoke to the microphones of Sports Radio in view of the last sprint to salvation:
The excellent results of the last 3 with Atalanta, Inter and Juventus?
“A process of growth was undertaken for the team group, also thanks to some measures in January and some more attention after the match against Lazio. Giulini confirmed his trust and then Ranieri’s rumored resignation, these things gave a shock. From there another championship started, fortunately the results allowed us to fully return to the fight. I hope that the latest results confirm this growth”.
Is Cagliari regenerated by the latest results?
“On the eve of this triptych there was almost a feeling of helplessness, but we looked at it one match at a time, bringing our best to the field and we also collected points with the big teams. This brought us a situation in the standings that we didn’t even expect us, but now we have to confirm ourselves because every day can bring unexpected results. This year the fight for survival concerns many clubs and we need to fight to the end.”
The growth of the Cagliari squad also on an economic level?
“It’s nice, because initially the principles we relied on were those of technical competitiveness through economic sustainability and the capitalization of the squad at our disposal. Some guys came to Serie A and we invested in some guys, for now we are happy but now we need to reach salvation”.
Will the future still be with Ranieri?
“We started a journey with him 16 months ago. We immediately returned to Serie A, this is the second step which will be salvation, the third will be the consolidation of the category. The objective is to maintain the working staff”.
The new stadium?
“It is a crucial issue. It is a public work, which will therefore remain available to the community despite being financed largely by a private entity. There is a lot of bureaucracy, we are at the last step, we hope to overcome it and then start jobs”.
Can Gaetano and Yerry Mina be confirmed?
“In the meantime, let’s reach the goal, then we will sit down and see what the players and clubs want. For Mina we have an option, let’s see, it will also depend on the category but we have an option for the renewal for another year. But salvation is a step of no small importance.”
The next match against Gilardino’s Genoa?
“Young, enterprising boys who were high-level footballers and who were good at understanding the new ways of offering football. At the base, however, there is the quality of getting into the heads of the boys, what Gilardino, Palladino and Rossi is also symptomatic, this new generation can bring new ideas and do good for Italian football.”
Scuffet a good intuition?
“He is tied to us for 3 years. He is part of the big group. Now we are focused on the objective, we have put ourselves back in a good position and we will have to be good at realizing this path”.
